How does $4 per gallon gasoline impact your business IT infrastructure?

by Brad Senter on September 4th, 2008

Michael Sivak, with The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, recently reported on the relationship among recent trends in gasoline sales, distance driven, and motor vehicle fatalities.  His results were somewhat surprising.  From April 2007 to April 2008 gasoline sales and miles driven have decreased by only 2% while motor vehicle fatalities have decreased by more than 20%.  Generally one would expect those numbers to be closer together; meaning, fewer fatalities because there are fewer people on the roads.  That is not the case here.  What we can extrapolate from this data is that people are actually driving smarter.  We have increased our tire pressure.  We are slowing down on the roadways.  We are wearing our seatbelts.  Consumer awareness campaigns have paid off.

The message is the same for driving your business.

Business owners are fully aware of the pains experienced in this weakening economy.  The cost of business and the cost of goods sold are consistently on the rise.  If you are in the business of selling a product or providing a service you especially know these pains and are probably already making critical decisions to maintain the profitability of your company. Therefore, setting up your organization with an effective and integrated set of reliable, versatile, scalable products to protect and control communications is key to smarter business decisions.  When we drive our businesses smarter we increase productivity and experience fewer “IT fatalities”.

What can we do for you?

With email being the most widely used business application, its use also represents significant risks to an organization in the form of impact to business continuity, loss of confidential information, legal exposure and failure to enforce regulatory compliance, all of which can have significant financial implications.

Ipswitch IMail Server Premium is a fully-featured, easy to use, standards-based email server system.  IMail Server supports SMTP, POP3, IMAP, LDAP and provides workgroup collaboration, encrypted instant messaging, shared calendaring, multi-language Web-based email, a global address book and protection from viruses and spam. Everything you would expect to be found in an enterprise-class messaging system can be found in IMail Server.

For example, IMail Server Premium provides a solution to costs and complexities associated with deploying and managing Exchange Server 2007:

  • Hardware Support – a business does not need to replace its servers to be able to run the very latest version of IMail Server. IMail Server can be installed on any x86 or x64 server with 512 MB or more of RAM enabling businesses to continue to leverage their existing hardware investments.
  • Licensing costs – to purchase Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition with Forefront Security for 100 users for a 3 year period would cost approximately $14,899. To purchase IMail Server Premium with security from BitDefender® for 100 users for a 3 year period would cost approximately $5,970.

Add more users into the equation, and the savings achievable with IMail become even more substantial.
