IMail v11 Technical Preview Update

by Jason Henline on January 16th, 2009

Hi Folks,

It has been a while since I last posted and I apologize for not staying in touch.  We’ve been hard at work on IMail v11 and getting ready for the “Technical Preview” or “beta”, depending on which crowd you frequent.  In the first build the following features will be available:

  • New Console Admin
  • Updated Web Admin
  • Updated SMTP engine
  • UI for creating and editing the system trailer message
  • Option to suppress JavaScript and images in web client
  • Option for administrators to set web client preferences

The technical preview is just around the corner, until then hop on over and take a peek at the release notes.  The docs team would like me to remind everyone that these release notes are not final and changes will occur.

If you have not registered to participate in the Technical Preview Program, please take a moment to register.

Before I sign off, there are a two really exciting features that I am now able mention (they will not, however, be available in the first technical preview).  Many of you have been asking for mobile synchronization and edge checking functionality.  Well, I am please to tell you that both features will be included in IMail v11.  As soon as we have a technical preview of these features available I will let you know…so, check back soon!

  1. Wow! “Edge Checking” (ability to refuse emails during the SMTP connection, either based on IP address or after the DATA command) has been so many years overdue and forced most serious users to front-end IMail with a more capable gateway product or hardware. I’m glad to see that IMail is finally being brought up to current best practices.
The rewritten SMTP service may exhibit some early problem – but hopefully it will enable many long-missed capabilities – such as the ability to extend the product through “open” third plug-ins.
